Teen & Novice Drivers

Novice drivers under the age of 18 are required to complete 24 hours of classroom driver education and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving instructor in order to obtain an Ohio driver's license.

AAA created the first-ever driving course in 1935.

These classes and behind-the-wheel instruction are taught by nationally and state-certified instructors specializing in AAA's curriculum. As a trusted leader in traffic and roadway safety, we look forward to helping you create safe driving practices for life.  

All classes take place at AAA Ohio Auto Club Headquarters in Worthington. Drives also start and end at this location. 

  • Behind-the-Wheel Training Only 8 Hours

    This program includes 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving instructor.  It is intended for students who have already completed an online course and still need behind-the-wheel training.All drives start and end at AAA Ohio Auto Club Headquarters, 90 E Wilson Bridge Rd., Worthington.

    Online course and/or classroom instruction NOT included.

    Before scheduling behind-the-wheel training, a student must:

    • Must be a AAA Member or have taken AAA How to Drive Online Program
    • Have a valid temporary driving permit (available once they turn 15 and 6 months and pass their permit test)
    • Complete 24 hours of equivalent classroom instruction with an Ohio-approved online provider or licensed driving school
    • Provide their 24-hour classroom certificate of completion from a licensed online provider. Information on AAA's How to Drive Online Program is available at AAA.com/HowtoDrive.
    • Have at least 20 hours of drive time with a parent or guardian

    All students receive:

    • A FREE one-year AAA associate membership for a new teen driver

    • Virtual Parent orientation session included (must select session at time of registration)

    The total amount for behind-the-wheel training needs to be paid in full at time of registration.

  • Additional 2-Hour Driving Lesson

    Take a one-on-one driving lesson to assess your skills, work on a specific maneuver, or just gain more experience driving. The instructor will speak with you ahead of time to ensure this lesson is tailored to your needs.
